The Last Story Trademarked in North America

Operation Rainfall has not given up the fight to get three highly anticipated Japanese RPG titles localized for a North American release. Nintendo has recently responded, via Twitter, that there are no plans at this time to bring The Last Story, Xenoblade or Pandora’s Tower to North America. Evidence continues to mount, however, that says perhaps the titles are being prepared for some sort of launch on the continent.

Today word got out that Nintendo has trademarked The Last Story here in North America. The trademark application was actually filed back in January of 2010, but it was not granted until last week. Does this mean the title has been confirmed? Not by any means. Nintendo has a habit of trademarking titles and other things just so that they have them in case something should ever happen. I would like to think that all these little pieces of evidence are pointing towards the games making their way over here. Pandora’s Tower is first on my list, but I’m also very intrigued by The Last Story.

If nothing else, Nintendo should take the European localization and do some sort of limited edition run that they could use to gauge interest in the games. If those initial runs do well they could have a potential hit on their hands and order another run to be produced. There’s not much, financially, that is stopping them. The work’s being done elsewhere. They just need to press the discs.
